Shoveling Snow, Using Snow Blowers Can Be Hazardous to Your Health

What does winter mean to you? To many people, winter means snow, snow and more snow. Snow, while beautiful, causes many problems for local inhabitants. Clearing ice and snow can be time consuming, not to mention dangerous. How dangerous? According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), in 2006, more than 31,000 people were treated in hospital emergency rooms, doctors’ offices, clinics and other medical settings for injuries sustained while shoveling or otherwise removing ice and snow manually.

Another study, conducted by The American Heart Association, estimated that as many as 1,200 people nationwide die annually of coronary artery disease during and after major snowstorms; thanks, in large part, to snow shoveling.
